1. Passenger ship service between the UAE and Kerala expected to launch soon.

“We want to make sure that Indian expats in the UAE can travel to their hometown without paying exorbitant airline charges,” said YA Rahim, President, Indian Association Sharjah. With tickets likely to cost between Rs 10,000 Rs 15000, the passenger service could help Indian expats reach Kerala in three days. The project is being spearheaded by the association in partnership with govt. of kerala.

2. Thailand records 19 million foreign tourists since January 2023.

The Tourism Ministry expects to see 28 million arrivals by year-end. Thailand’s new govt plans to boost tourism arrivals, include waiving visas for arrivals from China and Kazakhstan from Sept. 25 till the end of February. Also, with a high season of long weekends in source countries like Malaysia and Japan starting this week, arrivals are expected to pick up.

3. India suspends visa services for Canadians as stand-off escalates.

India yesterday suspended visa services for Canadian citizens, citing security threats to its staff in its consulates in Canada. “We have suspended visa applications,” said Arindam Bagchi of MEA, adding that all categories of visas, including e-visas are suspended.

4. Meghalaya govt to promote wine industry to boost tourism, entrepreneurship: CM.

Meghalaya CM Conrad K. Sangma said that the government plans to promote fruit wine industry in the state. “This activity that we are trying to do, it links tourism, agriculture, and job creation. It has the potential to un- lock a vast capacity that is lying dormant,” he said.

5. Govt is exploring ways to enhance Andaman & Nicobar Islands’ tourism sector further.

Ajay Bhatt, Union Minister of State for Defense & Tourism has tweeted that he engaged in a productive discussion with tourism officials of Andaman & Nicobar Islands in Port Blair. He said that the government explored ways to enhance the UT’s tourism sector further.

6. Japan receives 2 million visitors for third straight month in August.

The number of foreign visitors for business and leisure was 2.16 million in Aug 2023 as per data from JNTO. The Aug numbers were down from a post-pandemic high of 2.32 million in July, but the recovery is continuing, aided by increases in int’l flights and a weak yen, which makes trips to Japan more affordable than they have been in decades. Japan welcomed more than two million visitors This month.
