1. Saudi Tourism Authority (STA) announces new initiatives for travellers.
Saudi has announced the opening of multiple VFS Tasheer Visa offices by the end of May to provide applicants with efficient and secure administrative visa services. Scheduled to open on May 18, VIA Riyadh will attract a global audience and showcase Saudi’s latest luxury shopping and entertainment district.
2. 415.93 crore earmarked for 17 tourism projects in Meghalaya.
These projects are at the various stages of preparation under the Meghalaya Eco Tourism Infrastructure Development Project. The projects include the Shillong Peak Ropeway, Integrated hospitality convention centre at Tura, hospitality complex and tourism infrastructure at Mawlyndep, Sohra and Chibagre, revamped convention center.

3. Nepal’s tourism rebounds; 28% Indians among 3.2 lakh air tourist arrivals in country.
Nepal’s tourism rebounded with 3,26,528 tourist arrivals by air from January to April. Among them, around 28% were Indians. “The increased tourist arrivals in the country are very encouraging,” said Nandini Lahe-Thapa, Senior Director of PR and Publicity, Nepal Tourism Board.
4. Varanasi has seen 10X increase in footfall compared to pre-Covid levels: Tourism Secretary.
Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism said, “Varanasi, infra- structure development has resulted in a 10X increase in footfalls compared to pre-Cavid, according to statistics shared by UP government. Jammu & Kashmir has seen the highest ever footfall in 75 years of independence.”
5. Uttar Pradesh govt plans ‘Ramaland’ in Ayodhya modelled on Disneyland.
the UP government is planning to develop a theme park ‘Ramaland’ modelled on Disneyland to narrate the story of Lord Ram. With Ramaland, the tourism department is looking to attract children and adults alike to showcase the legendary tales from Ramayan in the template of ‘learning with entertainment’.
6. Myanmar Airways enhances connectivity, starts direct flights between Yangon & Chennai.
Myanmar Airways International (MAI) is operating a direct non-stop flight on the Yangon-Chennai route. This flight will enhance the connectivity between India and Myanmar. The inaugural flight on this route started from May 6, Chennai will be the first south Indian destination for the Myanmar-based airline.
7. Govt to to launch ‘trusted travellers programme’, faster immigration clearance.
The programme, which allows quick immigration clearance for pre-verified travellers, will be started on a pilot basis at Delhi and Mumbai airports this year and will eventually be implemented at 15 airports by 2027 and all airports by 2032, reported HT citing an anonymous official.
