1. Nepal considers hiking Mt Everest climbing fee to USD 15,000 for foreigners

The Nepal govt is contemplating hiking the royalty fee to obtain permission to climb Mount Everest from $11,000 to $15,000, effective from 2025. The govt is also introducing a new regulation mandating expedition agencies to retrieve deceased climbers’ bodies from the mountain, considering the growing number of bodies being left behind despite having insurance coverage.

2. Tourists allowed to visit Campbell Bay in Great Nicobar Island.

Union Minister of State for Home, said that since Jan, 2023, a total of 8,026 tickets have been issued to both islanders and non- islanders of which 7,316 tickets were allocated to islanders, while the remaining 710 were provided to non-islanders for their visits to Campbell Bay. Several measures taken by the govt to promote tourism on Great Nicobar Island.

3. UP govt inks MoU for 5000 special accommodations at Maha Kumbh 2025

The Directorate of Tourism has entered into a strategic MoU with Luzern Ventures to create a range of accommodation options which includes homestays, B&B establishments, and paying guest units across prominent locations across the state. There will be a special focus on arranging around 5,000 accommodations in and around Prayagraj.

4. China temporarily exempts fingerprint data for Indian visa applicants

The Embassy of the Republic of China in India has issued a notice that until Dec 31, 2023, applicants eligible for single or double-entry visas for business (M Category), tourist (L Category), short-term family visit to Chinese citizens (Q2 Category), transit (G Category), and crew (C Category) purposes are exempted from collection of biometric data.

5. Ayodhya to come up with one more attraction, Ayodhya Haat

The Ayodhya Haat will have specially designed stalls offering handicrafts of local artisans. It will also have a floating restaurant and boat services as an added attraction for tourists. Ram Kutir cottages will come up for those who want to stay at the ghat. Cultural programmes, laser shows will add.

6. Italy working to reduce Schengen Visa waiting time for Indians.

In an interview with Business Line, Italy\’s ambassador said, “We are receiving an enormous number of visa applications and are trying to speed up the process. There has been a 38 per cent increase in visa issuance in the first seven months of 2023 compared to 2022.”
